If you asked us to pick our most anticipated original film in 2012 – not a sequel or adaptation, this is – we'd be hard-pressed to say anything other than Django Unchained, Quentin Tarantino's newest film about a freed slave, played by Jamie Foxx, who fights to free his wife from the control of Calvin Candie, played by Leonardo DiCaprio, who runs a volatile amusement park for his white clientele that includes gladiator matches between his slaves. It sounds incredibly dark but also in-keeping with Tarantino's new brand of historical revisionism, which began with 2009's Academy Award-nominated Inglourious Basterds. Then again, we're western fans, so we'd feel that way about any film with the word "Django" in the title.
With the film due in theaters on Christmas Day, 2012, news is coming in from the set faster and faster. Hot on the heels of the recent poster comes the first two official stills from the production, featuring Jamie Foxx, Christoph Waltz and Leonardo DiCaprio in character.
