Today, Rockstar announced plans for Max Payne 3’s upcoming DLC before the game even hits shelves (that’s happening May 15). Much like Rockstar did with L.A. Noire’s expansion content, Max Payne 3’s DLC will be available individually or in bulk by picking up a Max Payne 3 Rockstar Pass, granting you a bit of a discount in the process.

All Max Payne 3 DLC will be multiplayer focused, with the first content drop coming in June, called the “Local Justice Map Pack.” This map pack will include the “Police Precinct” map for use in Gang Wars, Deathmatch, Team Deathmatch and Payne Killer multiplayer modes. Additionally, the map pack will introduce two more maps, avatar items, multiplayer challenges and more.

The price of this first map pack as a standalone item is still a mystery at the time of publishing this article. However, Rockstar does get into specifics about the Rockstar Pass in their presser. The pass will run you $29.99 on PS3 and PC (2400 MS Points on Xbox 360) and grants you access to all Max Payne 3 DLC throughout the year. That’s a 35% discount from what you’d pay buying the packs separately, Rockstar points out.

You can pre-order a Rockstar Pass at Best Buy and GameStop in North America right now. You can also pre-order the PS3 version directly from the PlayStation Network Store.

Here’s a tentative schedule for Max Payne 3’s DLC. Exact pricing details and release dates will be announced soon.
