Last season on "Burn Notice," Michael Westen (Jeffrey Donovan) finally got back in the door at the CIA only to end up under the thumb of Anson Fullerton (Jere Burns), the man who burned him years ago. To free Michael from Anson's grasp, Fiona Glenanne (Gabrielle Anwar) turned herself into the FBI to answer for the murders that Anson had previously pinned on her.
When "Burn Notice" returns to USA next month for its sixth season, you can bet Michael won't be taking that lying down.
"Let's just say that the way Michael Westen tells people he loves them is by going to great lengths to help them out. GREAT lengths," said "Burn Notice" creator Matt Nix during a live chat with Entertainment Weekly.
And while Michael and his team have been trying to take down Anson without exposing themselves to more CIA scrutiny, that ship appears to have sailed.
"Michael's relationship with the CIA is going to get very, very complicated this year," related Nix. "Anson kind of reveals himself as a bad guy to the CIA, so getting him turns out to be more important to them than anything else."
On a lighter note, Nix mentioned that the wealthy girlfriend of Sam Axe (Bruce Campbell) will finally make an appearance, but things may be getting dark for Jesse Porter (Coby Bell).
"Jesse's on board with the team," noted Nix. "But his comfortable life ends up getting turned upside down pretty badly as time goes on."
Nix also confirmed a larger role for Michael's brother Nate (Seth Peterson) in a multi-episode arc and an episode that will focus on Lauren Stamile's Agent Pierce.
"This season is unlike other seasons in the sense that there's less of a "oh, let's hang out in Miami and take clients" thing going on," added Nix. "All season, they have very specific goals, and the stakes are very high."
"We were discussing in the writer's room the fact that we have episodes that are just middle-of-the-season eps that in any other year would have been finales or premieres," continued Nix. "It's going to be really exciting… er… intense."
"Burn Notice" season 6 will kick off on Thursday, June 14 on USA.
