Will The Expendables Come To TV?

Lionsgate is rumored to be considering a television adaptation of the all-star action franchise.

Back in 2010, Sylvester Stallone revitalized his career by assembling a dream team of action stars including himself, Jason Statham, Jet Li, Dolph Lundgren, Randy Couture, Steve Austin, Mickey Rourke and Terry Crews to headline The Expendables; with fellow action legends Bruce Willis and Arnold Schwarzenegger appearing in cameo roles.

The Expendables was a surprise hit which will add a sequel later this year as Chuck Norris, Liam Hemsworth and Jean-Claude Van Damme join the cast with Willis and Schwarzenegger receiving bigger parts as well. While Lionsgate appears to be confident that The Expendables 2 will also be a box office hit, the studio is reportedly thinking about a TV adaptation of the franchise.

According to Deadline, Lionsgate is considering TV series for not only The Expendables, but also for Red and Step Up. The report notes that Lionsgate is flush with cash after the astonishing success of The Hunger Games earlier this year.

So how would an Expendables TV series work? Presumably the same way as the film franchise, by gathering a cast of actors who made their names as action stars on TV. There are any number of combinations that could be used, but I would suggest casting Kiefer Sutherland ("24,"), Jennifer Garner ("Alias"), Adam Baldwin ("Chuck"), Lee Majors ("The Six Million Dollar Man"), Jason O'Mara ("Terra Nova"), Mark Valley ("Human Target"), Adrian Paul ("Highlander: The Series"), David Hasselhoff ("Knight Rider"), Kevin Sorbo ("Hercules: The Legendary Journeys"), Dean Cain ("Lois & Clark: The New Adventures of Superman) and Hulk Hogan.
