Last month, Mads Mikkelsen was reportedly in talks to play the villain in Thor 2. Now, Mikkelsen is adding another villainous persona to his resume.
According to TVLine, Mikkelsen has been cast as Dr. Hannibal Lecter in NBC's "Hannibal" TV series; a role first by famous by Brian Cox and Anthony Hopkins in Manhunter and The Silence of the Lambs, respectively. Based upon Thomas Harris' "Red Dragon" novel, "Hannibal" will take place in the early days of the iconic mastermind as he mentors FBI Agent Will Graham (Hugh Dancy) and helps him solve difficult cases.
While Mikkelsen has appeared in several Danish films and TV series, he is best known in America for playing Le Chiffre; James Bond's adversary in Casino Royale. Additionally, Mikkelsen also had roles in the Clash of the Titans remake, King Arthur, After the Wedding, The Three Musketeers and A Royal Affair.
The "Hannibal" TV series is being adapted by "Pushing Daisies" creator, Bryan Fuller; with the pilot expected to begin production soon. "Hannibal" will debut in midseason on NBC, likely in early 2013.
