With his last Batman movie, The Dark Knight Rises, almost complete it's fair to say that director Christopher Nolan could probably do just about anything he wanted in the film industry. So the question is… what does he want? In a recent interview with Empire Magazine (via IndieWire), he gave an answer. He wants to do a James Bond movie.

Nolan is reportedly "serious" about his interest in directing an installment of the long-running 007 franchise, making him the latest in the line of prominent directors who want a crack at the 20th Century's most prominent action hero. Quentin Tarantino and Steven Spielberg have both expressed interest at one point or another, but the producers of the James Bond movies have been reluctant to hand over the character. Nolan, who claims that James Bond was an influence on both his Batman movies and Inception, told Empire Magazine that he had already met with the producers at one point, but that in order to become involved, "It would have to be the right situation and the right time in their cycle of things."

That quote seems to imply that Nolan would want some control over the direction of his film, and possibly the franchise at large, so it might have to wait until the next James Bond casting changeover. But who knows? Maybe he just wants to make sure he can tell the exact story he wants to tell, and that he'll be free when they would want to go into production. This isn't the first time Nolan has expressed interest in the James Bond franchise. He's been talking about his interest in directing a 007 movie at least as far back as 2010.

Either way, the world is full of Christopher Nolan fans and James Bond fans alike who would probably give their left arm for the project to happen.
