Bryan Cranston Teases ‘Breaking Bad’ Season 5

Walter White and Jesse Pinkman get at least one new partner. And possibly more...

Last season on “Breaking Bad,” Walter White finally managed to outmaneuver the local drug kingpin, Gus Fring (Giancarlo Esposito) in part by winning back the trust of his longtime partner, Jesse Pinkman (Aaron Paul).

But to do that, Walt had to stoop even lower than Gus and poison a young boy whom Jesse loves like a son. Needless to say, Jesse won’t be pleased when the truth inevitably comes out.

When the fifth and final season of “Breaking Bad” arrives later this month, Walt and Jesse will quickly come together to fill the void left by Gus’ demise. During a recent interview with MTV News, Bryan Cranston confirmed Walt’s attempt to build his own drug empire.

"Now, we're together,” said Cranston. “[Jesse and Walt are] cohesive. We're working it out. And we're starting a new endeavor… We start cooking again. Walt figures out a very clever way to disguise it. Obviously we don't have the means or wherewithal to make another super lab, but we do it like a poor man's super lab … and in so doing, we need to expand our partnership."

Earlier this year, Jesse Plemons (“Friday Night Lights”) was announced as a new addition to the “Breaking Bad” cast. And apparently, Plemons’ character Todd will be Walt and Jesse’s new partner.

"There's some friction when he joins the group," noted Cranston. "We think we know him, and then it's like, 'What just happened? What did he do?' It's fun for [Plemons] to play because it keeps him guessing, and it keeps [Walt and Jesse] as a partnership guessing, too."

Even more intriguingly, Cranston seemed to indicate that least one other person will be joining Walt and Jesse’s burgeoning operation.

“There's someone else who comes into play [with the partnership] too, who you'll be familiar with." teased Cranston.

“Breaking Bad” season 5 kicks off on Sunday, July 15 on AMC.
