Lots of actors try to test their chops by appearing in a biography of a famous person. Channing Tatum put a spin on that by starring in Magic Mike, a fictionalized account of the life of… Channing Tatum (as played by Alex Pettyfer). Now, with that out of his system, he's going to go a more traditional route and play a different celebrity: world-famous daredevil Evel Knievel.
The often-flamboyantly dressed stuntman made a name for himself by performing 75 motorcycle jumps from the mid-1960s to the mid-1970s, breaking hundreds of bones in the process. He unsuccessfully lobbied to jump the Grand Canyon, eventually settling for Snake River Canyon in Idaho, only for his parachute to deploy early and ruin the stunt. In previous motion picture adaptations of his life he's been played by George Hamilton and even Knievel himself in 1977's Viva Knievel!
In a brief digression, we really hope Tatum, who is also producing the film alongside Mike DeLuca and Dana Brunetti, uses the title Viva Knievel! It's perhaps more likely that he'll retain the title Life of Evel, the title of the biography by Stuart Barker that this new biopic is based on.
CraveOnline will be back with more Channing Tatum news after we jump Springfield Gorge on our skateboard.
