After two seasons (and a prequel miniseries), Sparactus' story on Starz is heading towards its bloody and tragic conclusion in 2013. But don't expect one of history's most famous rebels to go down without a fight.
During last weekend's Comic-Con International, Starz unveiled the first trailer for "Spartacus: War of the Damned;" the upcoming third and final season. Liam McIntyre returns for his second season in the title role alongside Manu Bennett, Dustin Clare, Dan Feuerriegel, Cynthia Addai-Robinson and Ellen Hollman.
"War of the Damned" will jump ahead in time to find Spartacus leading a much larger force of 30,000 escaped warriors and slaves in what will be known as the Third Servile War. By the time the season begins, Spartacus' army will have amassed several military victories against their hated Roman oppressors. Thus Marcus Crassus (Simon Merrells) and Gaius Julius Caesar (Todd Lasance) are ultimately sent to put down Spartacus' rebellion once and for all.
Also joining the cast this season is Anna Hutchison, who will play Laeta, the privileged wife of a Roman dignitary; with Jenna Lind as a loyal slave to Crassus named Kore and Gwendoline Taylor as Sibyl, a slave who is freed from the Romans and may become an ally to the rebels.
"Spartacus: War of the Damned" will return to Starz in January 2013.
