In the closing moments of "Supernatural" season 7, the Winchester brothers and their allies successfully banished the Leviathan leader Dick Roman (James Patrick Stuart) from Earth. But in the process, Dean (Jensen Ackles) and the angel Castiel (Misha Collins) were sucked into Purgatory with little hope for their escape or survival. And in the end, Sam ( Jared Padalecki) was left to fend for himself in a building still crawling with Leviathans.
When the eighth season of "Supernatural" returns this fall on the CW, some time will have passed and Sam will have made a difficult decision. “Essentially, Sam walked away from the life when Dean, Castiel, Kevin and Crowley disappeared,” said Padalecki during a brief chat with TVLine. This choice actually echos back to the time that Sam was thought lost to hell at the end of the fifth season and Dean made a similar decision to walk away.
Padalecki also shed some light on Amelia (Liane Balaban), Sam's new love interest who will be introduced in the upcoming season.
“Sam is no longer with [Amelia] [by the season premiere]" revealed Padalecki. “Most of the love interest stuff we see is all in flashback, though I know she will come back to non-flashback at some point in time.”
Another recent casting story has partially revealed that Dean will be getting out of Purgatory with the help of Benny (Ty Olsson), a dangerous vampire whom Dean feels indebted to after their mutual escape. However, it's not clear if Castiel will also get out of Purgatory.
"Supernatural" season 8 will begin on Wednesday, October 03 on the CW.
